RegDefense Review

If you have ever spent any time on a computer then chances are you’ve experienced a problem or two. Computers are tricky machines indeed and it seems with just one wrong move you can create massive problems that unless you’re a computer technician with years of experience, fixing them can be extremely difficult if not extremely expensive. There are many products and services available on the market to help you fix your computer if you do encounter a problem and one such product that is growing in popularity on the Internet is called RegDefense.

RegDefense is a downloadable software specifically designed to fix registry errors in your computer to help solve a variety of problems. Because it is a software and not a live person the problems that this product can fix are in fact limited in nature. While there are limitations, RegDefense boasts the ability to fix a variety of problems that could be affecting your computer including: random error messages, your computer freezing, your computer crashing, slow Windows start up, your computer shutting down for no reason, overall slow computer performance, and a variety of other potential problems. Before we move on it’s a good idea to look at exactly how this software will operate on your computer and what areas it will target to try and fix.

Your computer’s registry is basically a database that exists to store information and settings within the Microsoft operating system. These entries act like folders to store necessary functions of your computer and from time to time some of the files themselves get corrupted often simply as a function of using your computer correctly with no specific fault of your own. Over time, these corrupt files can do serious damage to the performance of your computer and cause a variety of the problems we already listed above. Regdefense will diagnose the files and folders of your registry and work to thereby dramatically increasing the performance of your machine without your having to do any manual work whatsoever. The key question is does it work?

Even a cursory glance on the Internet will tell you that this product is looked upon favorably by its users. While Regdefense won’t be able to fix all the problems that may affect your computer, those associated with the registry will most likely be taken care of by this new and innovative product. Regdefense has performed well in many of the tasks given it by independent testers who are looking for ways to limit the down time of their computers especially those who own and operate businesses that specifically rely on the use of their computers for their income. These testimonials helped sway me to go ahead and give this product a try myself.

First of all, the price was simply no objection for me. As someone who has had a variety of computer woes in the past, spending $29.95 for a product that promised to relieve me of many types of common computer problems seemed like more than a bargain. In addition, Xionix, the company that makes Regdefense, also offers unlimited upgrades and notifications about the product for just $9.95 per year. Again this is a no-brainer. The last time my computer had an issue, I was on the phone with a computer technician for more than three hours and it cost me well over $200 to diagnose what turn out to be a relatively simple problem. While I was grateful for the help that I received from the computer technician, I would rather have spent $29.95 first to see if this product would have taken care of the problem right away.

Upon purchasing the product, I was able to download the software in just a few minutes and begin scanning my computer for any potential problems. The interface itself is very simple to use and understand and gives the user simple and easy-to-understand instructions to walk you through the process the first time. Upon performing a scan of my computer, Regdefense listed several errors that existed on my PC that had to do with the startup of my computer. I had noticed for some time that when starting up my computer for the first time or restarting, it was a little sluggish and took a few minutes before start up was complete. This made sense then that Regdefense pointed out that several of the files in my startup were corrupted. Once these problems had been diagnosed, it was just a matter of a few minutes and a push of a button to get the software working for me. In no time at all the corrupted files were fixed, at least that’s what the software told me, and I was prompted to reboot my computer so that the changes would take effect. I went ahead and did this and to my surprise the computer started up much more quickly than it had for the past several months. I almost don’t want to bring this to light, but the fact is the $200 phone call that I had spent several months prior with the computer technician would have been completely unnecessary had I already installed Regdefense because the same exact problem existed then as did now. I was pretty happy knowing that $29.95 was money well spent even after using the product only one time.

Obviously this is just one persons experience and yours may be very different from mine but I can say that in downloading and using the product one time I was fairly impressed. This example does not give the whole story of Regdefense, however, so let’s take a little bit of a closer look.

One of the hallmarks of any quality product is the type of service and support that one can receive from the company itself. Having never been familiar with Xionix or Regdefense before, I initially had only the website to guide me in my research. One thing is for sure, the website, www.Regdefense.com, offers a good deal of information about exactly what the product is and does. There are no misleading statements that I could find on the website, just clear-cut communication about exactly what you get for your $29.95 download. The website features a very easy-to-understand visual chart which shows you what this product offers versus other similar ones that are on the market. Obviously, this one offers much more for your money than any of the others. In addition, the list of features and benefits is impressive indeed and highlights the fact that this company is committed to delivering a product that is packed full of value for the purchaser.

Another aspect of the website that may or may not offer of value to the end-user is the ability to do a free scan of your existing computer registry. I am not sure if this does truly offer of value because as my research has uncovered, almost everybody will have some type of corrupted file in the registry so this may merely be used as a sales tool to sell the product. I myself did not try the free scan because I felt comfortable with the download price of the product itself.

The website does go into a little bit more detail by using the FAQ section to help answer questions from first-time buyers to help them understand this product and a little more detail. This section is not incredibly content rich but did help answer some basic questions that I myself had about running this diagnostic initially and on a continual basis.

Finally, the last part of this review deals specifically with the performance of the company when servicing its clients. Personally, I am not too excited about doing business with a company that does not give you a phone number so that you can talk to a live person. Technology can be difficult enough as it is and if you can’t get a human being on the phone, often times it is better to just steer clear of the product entirely. Unfortunately, Xionix only offers an e-mail-based contact form on their website and there was no 800-number to be found. The form does promise 24 hours a day seven days a week service though, so I decided to go ahead and give them a try. I had a quick question about how often to run this scan so I went ahead and filled out the contact form. Much to my surprise, the customer service representative had e-mailed me back within the hour and gave me an answer to my question. For a package price of $29.95, I found this to be more than acceptable. I still prefer an 800 number, but the company is committed to getting back to its clients quickly than I can certainly give him a pass on this one.

What is a Registry?

October 8th, 2009 by , under Registry repair. No Comments

You may have heard a lot about it but still have a question circling your mind, ‘what is the registry?’ Well you may need to know that a registry is to your PC what the nervous system is to your body. Just as the nervous system controls the way your body responds to external stimuli, the registry regulates the responsiveness of the PC when a command is run by you.

The registry is the place where, almost all ‘preference settings’ of your operating system as well as other application software, is stored. The files are generally stored in a ‘.ini’ format. But even though this is virtually the ‘command center’ of your computer you may not know much about it because it basically functions in the background.

Hence a question such as ‘what is the registry?’ riddles most of PC users around the world. However it’s not that that difficult to know what a registry is all about.

You bring up the registry panel on your Pc by typing in the command ‘regedit’ in the commands prompt box. You will find many well organized ‘directories’ under the main registry panel. These directories are actually ‘keys’ and the entries within these keys are called ‘values’. The data stored in these values are actually the previously discussed preference settings.

These directories are arranged in order of hierarchy, with each having different names which denote the different types of data stored. The list goes something like this:

  • Hkey_classes_root: this directory stores data such as file associations with various softwares in the system.
  • Hkey_current_user: all settings used by the current user or in other words the person logged on to the PC, are saved in this directory.
  • Hkey_local_machine: this directory stores values and data that pertain to all users of the PC.
  • Hkey_users: this stores information regarding all login identities created on the PC.
  • Hkey_current_config: this contains all system preferences if there are multiple operating systems on a single PC.

So now you may actually be having some answers to ‘what is the registry?’ Read on to find out some more facts about the registry.

You can actually alter the registry from the panel that can be brought up by running the ‘regedit’ command. But why do you need to alter or edit the registry at all?

Well this is simply because as we keep uninstalling old programs the values and entries relating to them are not simultaneously from the system registry. So the directory often gets overloaded with old file associations and thus your new programs might run slower than usual. This is because the operating system takes that much longer to sift through the cluttered registry.

You can delete the unnecessary entries from the various directories manually and give proper shape to the registry. But if you are not very computer savvy then you might accidentally end up deleting some critical system related entries. In that case the best alternative for you may be to use professional software for cleaning up the registry.

Such software can scan and delete redundant entries and values from the registry in quick time. RegDefense is such a software that you may want to use for dealing with a clogged registry. With features such as deep scan and back-up it’s one of the best bets around.

Now that you don’t have the question, ‘what is the registry?‘ bugging you anymore you might go ahead and cleanup your registry for a great computing experience.
